What have green cars ever contributed to transport, ecology, progress and indeed humanity compared to say petrol or diesel? Not a fig leaf far as i can see! Indeed the real question is why do normally well balanced car companies turn into snake oil salesmen lying like banshees (eco warriors!) soon as they get a 'green' car to promote? It's like spiv Tony Blair all promises, promises, promises then delivers you nothing with a huge bill attached! So let's start with Toyotas tedious fridge, the Prius. The anit-car for people with more guilt than sense, more eco-snobbery than justified reason, more money to burn than imaginary trees saved. Look past the greenwash from Toyotas slippery PR Dept and its nickel batteries were originally mined in Canada on a site that's a death zone for plant and animal life for miles, shipped to Europe for reprocessing, shipped to China for more reprocessing then finally Japan to be slotted into its Prius 'saving the planet' shell before finally being shipped back around the globe to your local garage. That's a whole lotta green innit! This smoothed over shoe box is Toyotas most recalled and unreliable car ever. The latest recall is the brakes fail if they hit a hump or catches cold. Yes the car for the global warming generation won't stop and indeed its batteries lose the energy to live when caught out by the cold reality the Earth is seeing ever more record breaking cold winters worldwide. Naturally that most insular bunch of greenfleecers, the Labour Govt, has bought a load of these eco-fridges and telling us all "to drive 5 miles less" from the Dept of the Environments eco-rated 'F' (for fatuous) office building. Will Govt officials be able to stop 5 miles short when their globally chilled answer to global warming has cold brakes Gov? Not only does Toyota carry the Voodoo curse that comes with the World Auto No.1 Crown but the Prius has the deathwish of the British Govts stamp of approval which immediately ensures near imminent collapse as does everything this Labour Govt has touched, blessed or promised. Its UK Met office, the Govts global warming/weather forecasting 'experts' said in 2000 snow and freezing temps were "a thing of the past" here in the UK. So the guaranteed reality was washed out summers and freezing winters for 10 years as the Govts weather predictions meant Councils didn't stock up on grit winter after winter. Just as well the Prius freezes in winter because everything else in this shambollicly run country ground to a halt too! So the real truth of the Prius' green tek eco babble is it won't beat a good diesel for fuel economy and will be sent to the great recycler in the sky earlier too while being weighed down with lithium lard won't match a petrol for performance or fun - remember 'fun' sometime between the words 'cradle' and 'grave' would you Toyota? By any measure the Prius falls short of being a winner, falls short of even being any greener and as usual with all things environmental, runs on empty promises too. Labour still "believes it did the right thing" even if both home and abroad they're a shambles. Just as Prius owners "believe" Toyota sold them guiltless motoring, something green, and not a total lemon

Road Warrior - that's a great "EU green road" initiative. Let me update you on where that'll get us. Take a yacht around the Med, and stop in any Turkish marina. They're competitively priced, modern, clean and well run because they were private sector invested and built. Sail across to Greece (currently bankrupt) where dozens of Councils were sent Euro €billions and what you'll find are total crap, concrete made using salt water crumbling and rotting and Councillors driving around in Mercedes. Your tax money hard at work. Much like the EU's books which are so bent they haven't been signed off for 11 years and last Commissioner that raised questions was sacked! And despite nature (98%) and man (2%) pumping Gigatons of increasing amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere the temperature is cooling. Over the last 10yrs, 20yrs, 30yrs or even 100yrs. Take any measure you like mate, it's cooling. Have you, or the EU, seen the Vostok ice-core record yet? A 12 year old can follow it. AGW & EU RIP

The European Green Cars initiative is one of the three PPPs included in the Commission's recovery package. The envelope for this initiative is foreseen at €5 billion to boost to the automotive industry in a time of economic hardship, and support the development of new, sustainable forms of road transport. Of this financial envelope, € 4 billion will be made available through loans by the European Investment Bank (EIB), and € 1 billion through support to research, with equal contribution from the Seventh Framework Programme for Research (FP7) and from the private sector. The scope of this initiative is broader than the two other PPP, and research is just one part of it. Several coordinated calls for research proposals should be launched in July this year. These financial support measures will be supplemented by demand-side measures, involving regulatory action by Member States and the EU, such as the reduction of car registration taxes on low CO2 cars to stimulate car purchase by citizens. Developing greener road transport Greening road transport is necessary to achieve EU and world targets in emissions reductions. In the EU, 19% of total EU greenhouse gas emissions and 28% of CO2 emissions in 2005 are linked to the transport sector. More than 90 % of total EU transport emissions are due to road transport. While total EU emissions declined, transport emissions increased continuously between 1990 and 2005 due to high growth in both passenger (28 %) and freight transport (62 %). Research is the way to develop the sustainable transport methods we need. Such "eco-innovation" will serve both to protect the environment, and to offer competitive advantage to those seeking to create new innovation-driven markets

With over 70% of European Carbon Credits traded now regarded as fraudulent and the UN"s IPCC wracked with scandal after scandal and (Phew! yes there's more) the hacking that caused Climategate the last thing the unelected self-serving socialists of the EC needs is another climatic hole in the head! Well they've got one. Hackers have stolen over $4m worth of Carbon Credits after launching a phishing attack against companies in Europe, NZ and Japan. The attack appeared to come from the German Emissions Trading Authority! According to the BBC, it's est hackers stole 250,000 carbon credit from 6 companies worth over $4 million. 7 out of 2,000 German firms were targeted. The fraud is the latest example of hacks aimed at gaming environment controls. A year ago, hackers penetrated the Brazilian governments quota data for Brazilian rain forest products -- allowing the illegal poaching of more than 1.7 million cubic feet of timber.

AUDI 'HAHA' NOT SO FUNNY - The below post (URL) is a US commercial for Audi during Superbowl promoting their diesel A2. It proffers the Green Gistapo police arresting men with their jacuzzi too hot, not using 'green lightbulbs (full of metallic poisoins by the way) etc which actually is not so funny because it's not far from the 1984 Big Brother truth. the EU last year banned patio heaters, lightbulbs and some Chinese toys which you'd have to lick non-stop for 20 years to get a blister on your tongue the 'dangerous' materials are so microscopic. In fact an EU approved 'green' lightbulb could seriously put you in hospital but such global hypocracy is lost on the State police. See if you think it's funny or just too close to the Big Brother bone!!

STOP THE PRESSES : NEW MENACE. GOVT DECLARES WAR ON 'NGC' (NON GRATED CHEESE) - Yes i know it's a bit of a shocker but you heard it here first to save your life from NGC. The Govt has moved on from Swine Flu (Govt stoked up hysteria Tel lines shut down 'quietly' last week), AGW Global 'Warming' (er 'quietly' changed to climate 'change'), rabies, mad cow and WMD. After WMD, AGW we've now a new mega-menace the looming danger of non grated cheese (NGW) according to the leftie loons of the Health & Safety Gistapo, the Govts Food Agency. Tim Smith, the agency's chief executive, said that many people were unaware that they could prolong their lives by switching to easy alternatives to their favourite foods. "It's important to find ways to cut down, not give up. I learned to cut down cheese by grating it or using stronger flavour and I have cut down to 1% milk rather than semi-skimmed," he said. People tend to use less cheese in a meal if they have grated it." Great, er Grate newszzzzz!!

Bard - isn't it ironic the shrill green empties fretted on launch of the Tata Nano in India that could put 1.2bn pop. on the first step toward the freedom and living standards of Western mobility. They slammed a cheap small car bringing huge benefits to the rising poor. Meanwhile here socialists and Greenfleece want us to downsize to small cars! You can't win by the perverse twisted logic of these socialists. If you're poor they don't want you to have wheels. If you're rich they want to squeeze you into sardine cans which of course is only one step away from marching us in lockstep into public transport. Nirvana for greens, the only 'desireable' option even though it''s been economically unsustainable and completely inefficient for decades. The Greenfleecers always think they make better decisions than society even though their bankrupt failed vacuous ideas always require robbing our (motorists) pockets and freedom (choice) to prop up their shrill concepts

Bard - Russia has an excuse. It's come from the toilet socialism dumped it in. Britain has been a capitalist country forever but it has been increasingly milked to death by the socialists like Blair and Brown pretending to be Pro business, a mask to hide their lust for returning to power. Blairs first promise 13 years ago was to invest in new roads, the first real promise from a Govt for 50 long years. But failed to deliver, tied as he was by the nimby "not in my back yard" culture, the Sovietic planners controls/abuse over land and the shrill empties of anti-progress, the environmentals. We have no excuse for at least maintaining if not improving our road network. Do the maths ands only 2 transport systems work in a sustainable, efficient and productive way for our society and economy. Cars and Planes. Trains and buses are a joke from every angle, propped up by highway robbery from motorists since WWII. Cameron and Brown can stick their bankrupt high speed rail where the sun doesn't

$600 for a 1.0ltr engine are you sure??? You can't get a motorbike for that! This slots neatly in to Chinas (any countries) industrailsation, between push bike, motorbike and ultimately car and avoiding any form of badly run usually bankrupt public transport if you can. The Chinese are on a spending spree to build a vast 21st Century road network. Because of the pure scum that Governs our country our road network hasn't prgressed since the 60's early 70's. It's the biggest transport scandal. No other service or industrial industry would allow their network to fall into such disrepute (3 million holes) and halt all progress in meeting end-user demand. All for the shrill empties of enviromentalism who are war with both man and our living standards and indeed nature by declaring war on CO2, natures finest fertilizer. Socialism is socialised theft. And yes makes a nonsense of Gordon Murrays T25 Project our beloved Govt has just thrown taxpayers money at and buying pointless Prius'
