Hi guys, As you saw I am absolutely fine - got a bit smokey in there though. It was real shame, the car was brilliant up to that point, all three drivers were hitting the target lap times and we were working our way up the field.

This was the start of my second stint, so the car was brimmed with fuel. I saw a flash of flame while on the GP circuit and thought a small amount had spilt at the stop. I couldn't see the flames out the back - you only have small wing mirrors. Anyway, when the engine spluttered I knew it was bad. The brakes only worked briefly, which is why I steered into the barrier, it was the only thing I could do to scrub off speed. By this time the cockpit was full of smoke and I couldn't see anything and I still had to unhook the window net, release the belts and find the door handle. With that done I wasn't going to hang around.

It looks like debris (probably a piece of metal) went through the engine vent on the side and sliced trough the hoses. Nobody's fault, one of those deals. Feel sorry for all the guys who have worked so hard to get us here.

Thanks for all your comments, Rog

Not seen the video yet but read the article in the magazine and saw the photos. You were very lucky to get out unhurt. It could have been so much worse. It must have been extremely scary in there. Thankfully you are ok and able to give a clear account of what happened. I'm a circuit and rally marshal and so far havent had to deal with any major fires but I know several marshals who have.

Surely a significant bonus is deserved, if not for bravery & decisiveness then for the free advertising for Evo!!

beautiful dismount.

From now on, whenever I have a crunch decision to make, I'm phoning you for advice Rog. Honestly, and without sounding completely trite, you handled a potentially serious situation so well. You had very little time to act, and you had to do so decisively. I've just watched the vid and can't believe how well you dealt with it. Amazing clarity of thought. To have that happen at Scwedenkreutz..... jeepers. Glad you're okay.

Just watched the video on youtube. Amazing that you weren't hurt. The extra padding in your race suit must have cushioned your landing! Seriosly though, very glad to see your in one piece.

Credit where credit is due, that was some quick thinking on your behalf! Fair play. I'd imagine you'd be the sort who would be able to function properly in a plane crash while most would freeze...

fantastic escape!! great drama, well done on the ditching effort without breaks.

Scary stuff Roger, in awe that you kept your cool and did what you did, and drinking that beer must have felt really good! of course its shite that your race had to finish like this, but lets hope monkey pushes on!

I did feel the rear wheel brush my foot. Still with flames licking around my shoulders and the smoke getting acrid I think the bale out was the best option. The car had no brakes and it felt like it would never stop. Watching the race on TV and looks like Dickie might be out - car stopped on track. I feel his pain.

You lucky bugger. So glad you are alright fella. Almost did a Brian Harvey and ran over yourself though but i'll give you 6.0 for artistic merit for the beautiful dive from the car. Bet that beer afterwards tasted the best EVER!

After watching the video it's great to see you get out of that one alive, Roger! Well done.
