Hi, my name is Rick, and I'm having a mid-life speed crisis!

Feels a bit better to have said that, got it out of the system etc... but if you've seen the story on the main Evo page you'll know that in the coming weeks I'm going to take a car I've never driven to it, and my absolute limits on a surface of which I've no experience. Yup, I'm going to celebrate turning 40 by trying to break a Land Speed Record at over 300mph.

It's not going to be easy, and it's not going to be safe. And we are not doing it for any other reason than the fact it's there.

I'll be blogging on here direct from the Salt starting with tech inspection on Aug 14th, then my rookie meeting and licence passes all the way up to, hopefully, making a run at the record sometime in the middle of the following week (18th or 19th).

Off to Scotland later this week for the final pow wow with the team and to persuade them to travel light (as budget only extends to one small hire car)!

Think fast thoughts for us!
Cheers
Rick

Rick, hope it all goes well and send the team back as soon as it,s over as I will miss their money on Thursday afternoon. Best of luck from your teams MAC MAN.

Glad a workable solution seems to have been found. The first option wasn't very practical and may have stung a little....Looking forward to reading your updates!

Saw a couple of inches out of my neck was the teams suggestion... I've got Stand 21 to make me up a new helmet using their latest IVOS which is thinner in the chin area and also Terry Moreau has moved the ridge on the floor of the car (comically called the seat) an inch or so further down so hopefully I'll be able to get (slightly more) comfortable. The thing not to forget though is that the runs at Bonneville include a 2 mile wind-up then 5 miles flat out... even at 300mph this is a full minute which will feel like a long time I think if I can't breath... but trusting the adrenalin to overcome the discomfort right now! Cheers Rick

Sounds fun Rick - good luck!! Any ideas how you'll solve the 'driver packaging' issues?
