As Art Director of evo I have seen my fair share of exotic cars but nothing has stopped me in my tracks as much as Porsche’s new Sport Classic.

Why? It’s the blend of historic touches brought up to date with a creative touch that I like. The whale tail, the stripes and the ducktail all remind me of 911s of old but with an artistic eye they have been subtly blended into something new.

To the untrained eye you would think its just another 911 ready for the paint shop as it sits there in primer but it’s not until you look closer that the designers thoughts become apparent.

The time that has gone into the stripe detail that flows through the rev counter and over the top of the gear lever is sublime. The black Fuchs style alloys that have a polished lip just to add a bit of bling but also catches a hint of yellow from the caliper of the carbon brakes. The black headlight surrounds may look ‘lick and stick’ but they are a nod to 911 RSR Turbo race car and that level of detail makes me want one so badly.

Designing evo is all about the attention to detail and when I see it in a car it really gets my creative juices flowing.

What's not to like? It's a beautifully crafted thing, and the details that could seem overwrought on another marque seem to compliment the 997 shape. Plus, it's not really aimed at Evo readers anyway, despite the wider track and minor hardware mods. I don't think it's all that expensive for a run of 250 cars, especially as it will most likely appreciate in value - I can see these going for £200k in a few years time.

With opinions being just that (I mean they aren't facts no matter how hard we close our eyes and wish), I have to say that it's the same old retro-marketing ploy. Do you walk through a door backwards? Not unless you are an overworked designer who is under pressure to deliver. Were do these poor sods look to for inspiration. Yes, the past as can be seen with some recent Ford, BMW, VW et al designs.

Its lovely, but the money asked for it is lunatic

I totally agree, this is so much more special than supercar this or that. And yes you could have a Gallardo or F430 for the money, but this has tons of style and unique details. It's perfectly usable every day. It's distinctive and drop dead gorgeous.

I really like this car. It may not be 'worth the money' compared to the Turbo / GT2 / GT3 etc but it's very desirable and looks great. I expect the owners will have several other cars to play with and it may even appreciate in value. If only...

I don't care much about the stripes but the ducktail is lovely.
