Don’t you just love the maelstrom of insanity that is the Kimi Raikkonen career path? If I was Bernie, I’d be forcing someone to take him on for 2010 because the sport needs him. Will he go to Mercedes GP? Can’t see it myself: they’ll want something young and German, potentially leaving Kimi to see how many S2000 shells he can destroy in 2010.
It was interesting chatting to some of the Ferrari PR chaps about him on the 458 launch. They were careful to ensure everything was off-the-record, but the overriding feeling I had from them was that despite all the usual Kimi-won’t –do-PR-gripes, there’s a genuine fondness for him at Maranello. They recognise his uncanny speed, they quietly adore his totally laissez-faire attitude to F1 and they wish him well.
And he has, quite literally, left an indelible mark on the factory. Each little side-road and alley on the main factory site has a name. The main thoroughfare is, predictably, called the Via Enzo Ferrari. But each of the others is named after a Ferrari Formula One World Champion: hence the Via Kimi Raikkonen. Massa may be the Scuderia’s main-man, but I am alone in thinking that there will never be a Via Felipe Massa, and that it is far more likely the name Alonso will one day appear on a road sign, on a small industrial estate near Modeana?

I agree he is a talent but I do not think F1 will be any less without him

Kimi, great loss. He operated in a BS free zone, a breath of fresh air in the PR stifled world of F1. We all know where he was during Micheal's final pre race tribute, repect!!

I think he is like Hakkinen in the way that he doesn't have squadrons of fans bearing down on him all the time but he was just a bloody quick and technically awesome driver. I think F1 this year will feel funny without him. I think he's a calm and balanced influence on F1 to counterbalance the hotheaded and at times overbearing Schumacher/Alonso/Hamilton personalities. Perhaps that didn't suit the Ferrari 'Latin passion' mold entirely, but I'd like to see him and his focused determination at Force India or some team like that to ensure another competitive team/driver.

Well I am glad Kimi is gone, super talented he may be but Massa was quicker than him on many occaisions. Kimi didnt seem to devote himself to the team, whereis Massa does.
Bottom line if he was so great why did Ferrari replace him a year early!
