After reading Stephen Dobies article on the Scirocco TDI the other day it got me thinking what is the best diesel I have ever owned. I've owned a few to date and our current family car is a 2007 Honda Civic 2.2 i-CDTi. It's got great interior spec, devours long journeys with ease, handles well, brakes well and goes way better than the 138bhp would suggest! Thanks to the "magic seats" it is very practical and the car has never missed a beat throughout the 102,000 miles that it has so far covered. It's so good that we are thinking of just keeping hold of it for ever (seriously). This is the best diesel I have ever owned, what's yours?

BWM 123d - twin turbo and 200+ BHP, over 140mph out of it (in Germany), quick and still did 42mpg in spite of a very heavy right foot - never missed a beat once!

best diesel is one i never owned , i rented a T-reg Skoda Felicia 1.9 and thrashed it hard around the UK in early 2000 , crashed it in the north of Scotland (minor damage only) , handbrake turns in empty supermarket carparks , flat out on the M25 , many speed humps at indecent speeds , ahhh happy days!

Probably Focus 1.8 TDCi 113 Zetec. It was a 3 door and replaced a 1.6 petrol LX and it was night and day. Used vigorously it easily returned 52mpg and far better on long journeys. Really quick for overtaking and comfy enough. I still prefer petrol though.
