A large number of people seem to think Elon Musk is the new Henry Ford. At the moment he is trying to swoop in and completely change the automotive industry. The technology in electric cars is impressive, but should you really buy a Tesla?

It's not like you have many other options right now. If you want your car to run on battery power the company is number one. Perhaps you should wait a little longer before making a purchase. Let's look at a few pros and cons to help you make the right decision.

1. They're Still Extremely Expensive

If you want to be the first person to buy anything new you'll pay a premium. It's why Tesla vehicles are still so expensive. For example, take a quick look at the Model Three. It claims to be the cheapest model yet, but it costs more than a few pennies.

You'll still have to earn a great wage to afford one. Is this going to change any time soon? It's hard to say because Tesla wants to become a hugely successful company. Their prices probably won't start to fall until there is more competition.

2. They Care About Great Software

Did you hear Elon Musk talk about how a Tesla vehicle isn't actually a car? Instead, he says it's a sophisticated computer on wheels. It's definitely something an extremely successful tech founder might say, but is there any truth in it?

Luckily it's not all hype designed to sell cars. They'll be able to do things like brake when a car is in front of them and eventually park themselves. Lots of new technology is being put into new cars, but it's hard to see everyone keeping up with Tesla.

3. It's Built From The Ground Up

Tesla cars will look similar to other vehicles on the road, but they definitely didn't copy them. They threw out everything they knew about traditional cars. When they started on their adventure everything was built from the ground up.

Sometimes you do have to start from scratch when you create something completely different. Unfortunately, it's hard to see other manufacturers doing the same thing. This is especially true if they're already an established brand.

4. They're Always One Step Ahead

Traditional cars have been around for far too long. Companies have been scared to innovate because they love making money. Tesla will always come up with new innovations no matter what. It's because of the foundations the company is built on.

There are already plans for what will happen when self-driving cars hit the road. If their customers invest in a Tesla they'll help them pay for it. Owners will be able to use apps to loan their cars out to other people when they're not in use.

5. The Interior Needs Lots Of Work

It's easy to focus on a specific thing when you're bringing new technology to the mass market. Tesla obviously thought it would be a good idea to concentrate on the battery. I hope they understand a great car is actually the sum of all parts.

To be fair, they've done a good job on the exterior of their vehicles. Each one looks very stylish. They let themselves down once you open the door. The interior of Tesla motors will need to start living up to the large price tag before everyone starts to notice.

6. There Is A Lack Of Charging Stations

It's tough to charge up your car, which is something that could hold Tesla back. How far do you have to drive if you want to put gasoline in your car? Stations are scattered all around the world and it's taken a century to create what you see today.

You've got to give Tesla credit for investing a huge amount of money in the Supercharger network. It will make lots of people very happy. Sadly, they've still got a long way to go before charging an electric car will become easy.

After weighing up the pros and cons it's possible you're still confused. If you have enough money it's worth the investment, but if you don't it's still okay to wait for a while to see what happens.
