Following my blog last week with the Zonda setting its Nurburgring lap record, I thought I'd post a couple more videos of cars that I saw.
When we drive a really good car very hard, and yes it's frequently a Porsche, we sometimes say that it feels like someone has been there before us. What we mean is that the test drivers have obviously spent a lot of time really honing the way the car behaves not just up to but beyond the limit of grip so that it feels natural to drive it very hard. As if to prove this point I saw a 911 prototype testing at the Nurburgring. There were plenty of other manufacturer prototypes circulating the 'Ring but none was driven with quite such commitment as this. I'm sure the driver actually enters the Kleine Karussell sideways (once the S Class is out of the way).
Also going round was new BMW 5 Series with four tailpipes. Sadly I only caught the new M5 on a warm down lap, but I thought you might like to see it anyway.
Finally there is a short clip of an Astra VXR prototype. Extraordinarily this wasn't actually on the circuit but had taken a wrong turn up an access road to the viewing point at Galgenkopf. It was an extremely unlucky mistake for the driver to make as he not only stumbled across me, but also one of the chaps who takes spy shots of cars at the Nurburgring!
