ALIENS: COLONIAL MARINES

Any grapevine news on this?
Trailer didn't look too promising graphically, but I love the concept: Basically forget all the films and games after Aliens existed!

If the game is definitely going to be good (and I've bought virtually every Aliens/AVP related game so far) I'm tempted to get the Collector's Edition. "Get away from her, you bitch!"

Was just going to post the exact same thing! The reports I've read seem favourable, I think I'll buy it.

I'm in.

The last AvP was a pile of rubbish so hopefully this will make up for it.

I succumbed and bought the Collector's Edition.
Gotta love a Power Loader.

Damn you Yu you bastard, I'll have to order now, I love pointless models...

Actually it was RichardMajor's fault for posting that link to Amazon on his Dead Island thread. Is it possible to visit Amazon without buying something?

Wife is going to kill me for buying yet another "dust collector" with absolutely nowhere to put it...

But Aliens is firmly in my Top 5 all-time fave films (hah, suck that revYu haters) and I can't resist anything to do with it.

In fact, it's a bit like Star Wars; I am in truth not so much a SW fan as I am an Empire Strikes Back fan and likewise Aliens. I could happily never watch any of the others ever again, but every single time I catch Aliens on TV it has to be watched to the end. Even bought the Blu Ray on someone's rec from here and haven't watched it yet!

Have to be honest, caught my 9 year old nephew watching tv last night, what you watching I asked, Aliens came the reply! Had it been earlier in the evening I'd have let him crack on, he can't wait for the game!

Blimey, I wouldn't let a 9 year old watch Aliens! Still one of the scariest films I've ever seen at the cinema.

Never seen an entire audience literally jump out of their seats before, twice. First when the "dead" female colonists opens here eyes and second when the "dead" facehugger moves in the glass jar.

I saw it when I was 7 - made quite an impression.

For me there is a list of childhood movies that, like Yu, I just cannot help but watch all the way through.

Die Hard
Predator
Aliens
The Thing
Robocop

No special edition for me I hate to say - they never import them in over here. If I am lucky I might get the version with the extra content.

He'd just gone to bed and put his tv on, he turned it off sharpish when I told him too and it'd only got to the first face hugger part! He can't wait for the game to come out.

The game's an 18. I would discuss with his parents first as to whether he should play it. I definitely wouldn't let a 9 year old. Take a look at the trailers, it's pretty intense and gory, easily the stuff of youngsters' nightmares.

He sees me more than his dad so it'll be my call, he never seems fazed by violence and gore, I'll play it first and see what it's like.

Well it's a lot "healthier" scare than Hostel, Human Centipede and all those sick torture-porn movies I guess...

How do you think it will compare to Call of Duty which is also an 18? I've only ever seem brief shots of COD, all the kids at his school play that series!

CoD multiplayer is not that gory, is it? Some of the single player scenes are indeed, quite disturbing, and deliberately so. Spec Ops: The Line was extremely dark.

Sleeping Dogs features some graphic scenes of torture and killing too.
It's up to parents to decide whether they should ignore the age limits or not.

No idea - I guess it will have chestbusters flying out of rib cages at least once. Maybe the queen ripping the player in two?

COD has its moments in single player - Ghost gets burned to death in front of the player iirc.

I hope that this Aliens games captures the scary side more than the gore (Aliens is not that gory to be fair) - the last few games have really failed to be scary at all imo.

I got to see all sorts of crazy movies when I was young (single mum working all the time meant it was easy to get away with) Aliens, Nightmare on Elm Street were scary - but stuff like Platoon really upset me as gun shots/naplam pushed home the realisation that people actually died in a war - this was a lot more shocking to me.

One thing worth checking is does the game have a mode to tone down the blood and violence? A lot of them do these days.

Can't justify the cost for the collectors edition.

Ordered it for delivery tomorrow. :)

It's not getting the best of user reviews from the early receivers.

A review embargo until release day never fills me with confidence either, so much hype surrounding this game that I suppose it will never live up to.

One of the comments from Game TM which gave it a 4/10:

"Graphically, it's one of the worst we've seen grace consoles in years. It certainly may have been acceptable in 2006, when the game was first conceived, but now it just looks embarrasing up against other titles coming out in the Q1 release window"

But:

"After the less than impressive opening, things improve massively once the plot moves over to the human colony Hadley’s Hope. If that name rings a bell that’ll be because it’s the complex where most of Aliens’ story takes place. Gearbox’s attention to detail here is commendable, right down to the spent sentry turrets located outside the welded shut door of the operations room. This mission is a lot more open-ended, giving the chance to explore while setting up a perimeter. Aliens fans will be in their element – it’s the nearest they’ll ever get to walking onto the set of Aliens"
