My boss just told us all about his (e53) X5 with an "m6 racing engine"... It's a 4.8is, I really couldn't be arsed to go into it, but ironically he could have spouted far more interesting (and true) facts about other cars that share the engine - Morgan aero 8, BMW Z8... Why do these people make up this crap? Especially when it's a good car in its own right.

I was chatting to a guy who drives a new 320ed manual and apparently when you put it into EcoPro mode one of it's little tricks is to change the gear ratios making it more economical. I just couldn't be arsed to argue about it.

Tell him your engine is half a Mclaren F1 engine as a retort - it's more true than his comment is LOL .

Not strictly the Z8, since it was only the Alpina version which had the 4.8, named the V8 Roadster. If you had said that to him I bet he'd have been impressed...

I recently had an interview where we started talking about cars (my cv had motorsport as an interest) and the interviewer (a solicitor with a perfect academic record I imagine) didn't know how many cylinders his car had. I made him feel a bit stupid when I told him and I'm pretty sure I didn't get a vac scheme. He also knew less about beneficial rights than I did... Next time I shall just sit down and shut up.

I was told the other day that - if you can prove your actual car produces less emissions than the book figure (when tested at a VOSA test station) then they have to reduce the VED tax for you.

That actually made me chuckle. Love the way badges can convince daft/ naive people of anything!
