Forums > evo > Fantasy Garage – your suggestions

Previous | 1234567 | Next

We're introducing a new regular in the Knowledge buying section, based around cars for sale on (click 'For Sale' in the nav bar above).

Its working title is 'Fantasy Garage'. Every month I’ll set an evo staffer a challenge to find a car, or cars, for a fixed (fantasy) budget.

For instance, the first challenge is to find three cars (a toy, a sports or GT, and a daily driver) for £100,000 total.

You can split the budget as you see fit - £95k on a GT3 RS and £2.5k each on a sports/GT and a daily driver if you want! The only requirement is that the cars have to be available here.

We'll publish the best search results, and we'll give away a prize.

Reply below with your choices and link to the page where the car is for sale.

Me? I'd go for something AMG for the daily driver, something Caterham-shaped for the toy and an Aston of some kind....

Saying that, I did get distracted by this DeTomaso Pantera.

Daily Driver: Nissan 300ZX - £2,495

Sports: Lotus Elan SE - £7,500

Toy: Diablo VT - £89,950

Pretty sure I've just won this.8)

I'm sure at least one of them will be working at any one time.;)

Now stop trolling me you hat-wearing thundermut.

Touring Europe - 928 GTS, £18k

Trackdays - S2 Exige, £34K

Daily driver - AMG C63 Estate, £48k

Updated August 21, 2012 at 4:32 PM

OK, I'll take the bait:

Daily driver:
M5 touring (£27,500)

Weekend GT:
Rain Man (£20k - the black one)

($16,750 which is barely £10k! but probably need to triple that to get it over here and through an MOT)

That leaves me around £2,500 for petrol, which I think gets me about 1,000 miles in each car!

Some great choices. If only the prize was £100,000 to buy the cars....

Surprised this wasn't chosen for the family car, although it doesn't leave much £££ for the others...

It would be all kinds of wrong to be faced with this scenario and blow most of it on the family option. You must be getting old Nick.;)

Finally those hours of dreamily browsing classifieds have come to use! I might change my mind in the next few minutes, but for now I'd pick:

Toy: 2004 Caterham R300 Superlight - £19,995
A particularly tasty example of what Evo themselves declared the 4th greatest drivers' car ever... I also love that shade of green, matches the personality of the car perfectly!

Sports/GT: 1970 Lamborghini Espada SII - £49,995
I could imagine few better ways of driving across Europe with a few mates than behind the wheel of a vintage Italian V12. This one seems especially well looked after, and look at those wheels!

Daily driver: 2006 Audi RS4 Avant - £27,450
Only superficially sensible, what it being a wagon and all, the Audi would make me want to take the long and more winding way to work each day. Evo seems to like it as well, seeing as it got 64th in their Top 100 Greatest Drivers' Cars!

TOTAL: £97,440

So that leaves me enough for about half a month of fuel, and a few lottery tickets for afterwards...

Here's my little look at this conundrum. I, like most could probably change my mind each time I look. Anyway here goes......

Toy - Crazy Westie £14995 This would just be great fun for track days or an early morning blast in the countryside.

Sports - Sh1t my pants £54995 The Ultima is the hardest to justify as it is rather extreme and would probably cause the soiling of underwear but what better way to do it

Daily Driver - Mmmmmm Maserati £26995 What an everyday car! Wafting around in sporty edged comfort whilst nursing a boner. A beautiful car indeed.

SD said..... looked like a dog with worms, dragging its arse across the lawn.

Daily driver - Audi RS6 (2009) - £44k

GT/Sports - Rolls Royce Silver Spirit (1983) - £9k

Toy - Jaguar E Type Series 2 Roadster (1969) - £47.5k

Ok, so I'm £500 over, but I reckon the combination of modern German efficiency with classic British history is well worth the extra wedge. And what could go wrong with an old Roller and an E Type in the garage..?

1986 911 Carrera - 261bhp normally aspirated factory 3.2.

Okay, here we go, just using cars found via the Evo Classifieds link...

Daily driver
2005 Porsche 911 [997] C2S

2007 PORSCHE 911 [997] GT3

1990 PORSCHE 911 [964] CARRERA 4

Would prefer a 964 C2, but otherwise sorted. Under budget too!

I'm looking forward to finding out what my prize is Nick! ;)

Now stop trolling me you hat-wearing thundermut.

I love daydreaming about cars I would like to buy.

Heres my list:

Daily Driver
Audi RS4 Avant £1200.00
A typo maybe?

Sports / GT
Ferrari 328GTS £34995.00

Ultima GTR £49995.00

Wonder what the actual price of the Audi RS4 should be?
If I can't get that then this instead
VW Golf R32 £14495.00

So thats either £86190.00 with the RS4 or £99485.00 with R32
Can I have the three as my prize? :D

Incidently my avatar image is from a Pantera, awesome cars.
That should make me a winner right there!

I would buy all of these I could find for 100K
faster taxi

And start the worlds first "fast and not last taxi" service, then In only a few years I could sell the lot and purchase cars over your 100k budget like an Alfa 8c

Hows that for fantasy could happen

Spanner and Hammer speed shop.....Italian tune up specialist.

This was so hard and I spent hours on it!!

I've got quite a few different garages, here is a slightly different one..

daily driver, Honda Accord Type R- £1650 -it wont go wrong, it'll go on for ever and why spend more on a family hack to do the daily could also be a track slag as well!

GT car....Jaguar XK-R 1999 - £7995 - in green, a classy looking car for those trips to france,

toy....Porsche 911 GT3 RS- 2010 - £89,950. ECOTY 2010 beating the Ferrari 458, nuff said- its the best porsche in the classic ads for less than 100k!!

Now thats gotta be in with a chance of winning this!!

2- Daily Hack- BMW M3 CSL- £22,500

3- Road car/weapon- Ultima GTR - £49,995

Total cost- £88,995
Use the rest of the budget for upgrades/tyres/etc.

I really wanted the 2007 Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4 in my line up of cars but after plenty of searching it didn't really work so i ended up with these three. Could be worse!

Daily Driver
2006 Audi RS4 Avant £22,250
I'm a ski instructor so there isn't much better in the snow you can fit skis into!

Sports car/GT
2007 Aston Martin DB9 £42,995
For all the mountain passes in the summer! I wanted a V12 Vantage but to expensive and didn't want another V8 so settled for a DB9.

The (Track) Toy
2008 Lotus Exige Sprint (260 Cup Spec) £35,000
To annoy pretty much anything on track including Nick's Noble!

A few hundred pounds over but nick's garage was 2.5k over in the mag so i think i'm still good...

Right, I need your help. It's my turn this month and Trott has been quite greedy with the cash: I've got a £40,000 total to spend on a classic car (20 years or older), a hot hatch icon and a convertible.

So: what would you have?

Lotus Esprit turbo 1988

Hot hatch Icon
Ford Focus RS

TVR Chimera

Comes in a smidgen over budget ... but some haggling would sort that .
That TVR is quite local to me... may have to look at it

Hot hatch

Got to be a Clio 197, shirley? £5,995

Convertable? Classic? both in one? £29,995

£4,010 left for gin and hookers.8)

If they have to be three different cars, I'll go for the clio and these two:

111R £17,790

2002 Tii £15,995

But I'd rather have the Elan.

More importantly, when did 1992 become twenty years ago!:?

Updated September 19, 2012 at 12:44 PM

Even my earwax is radioactive.

Ferrari 308 GTB, £33,995
Hot hatch:
Clio 197, £5,941
Fiat Spider 2000, £950

Total £40,886 - should be £40,000 with some very limited bargaining ;)
There are 308 / 328 GTS allowing to be easily below the £40,000 limit, but a 308 GTB is definitely a better choice.
