Hi All, Just placed an order for a C250 C-Class Sports with the diesel engine.. Great economy, torque and even the performance is good with 0-60 in 7 and a top speed of 150ish. However, a diesel? It's not very Evo is it? Having owned a Lotus 111R and several sports bikes I now need to simply enjoy one car which has to be the main family transport as I have 3 kids. The C series is a good compromise and the Merc deals are very competitive right now. Question is.. what to Evo think about modern diesel cars? Are they just no fun, simple as? Should I consider changing to the petrol version..? Can I still be an Evo reader with an oil burner in the driveway? In an ideal world I'd have an M5 but it's not an ideal world. Rob.

Had a C350cdi for about 6 months now on our work scheme. Nice looking, nice steering, goes well enough, doesn't sound too tractory and gets ~40mpg. Ride is terrible though.

Mike, is that 350 of yours a sport version or SE? I'm guessing my C250 with sports suspension and 18" alloys is going to be pretty bad. I've had a passenger ride in the 350, power was everywhere. And I do read the magazine on occasions, very much enjoy it but kind of feel like it's not so relevant to a diesel owner..

Yeah the "sport". Might go SE if I get another one.

Due to a few circumstances i currently drive a Diesel Hilux 4WD, doesn't make me any less of a car nut though. BTW where did the Driven review of a non-typically evo car disappear to? Always loved reading about the thrill of driving, found in something unusual.

My own personal opinion is that I'd never own a diesel unless I had something big to tow or I did 20k plus miles per year. These days reading threads on here and maybe on some other motoring forum petrol cars are for losers and diesels are the fastest most fun cars in the world. Buy what you're happy to live with and ignore other peoples opinions!

Of course. My Octavia vRS is a diesel. Certain forum members have attempted to boost their credentials by topping up their diesels with petrol.

Nobody really cares what you drive, as long as you enjoy it.
