Yup, I'm one of those people who express an interest and then bail at the last minute like some kind of unreliable fair weather friend. I fitted new spark plugs to the Lotus today to get rid of a problem with it bogging under acceleration. Worked well, put some miles on it this afternoon and it ran like a dream.. Yet this evening I decided to go to the chippy in it and the problem has returned FFS.. I think it's something simple like needing new HT leads (the set I ordered haven't arrived) I couldn't do 7 miles like that let alone 70

By an odd coincidences could well be in the area. Give us a flash if you see a silver mk2 golf with red wheels!

Lovely bright weather, bit chilly. Beautiful up on the downs where we met up:

Jon was taking the day seriously:
Nice trip down to Newbury and back, then I stopped to phone the pub and discovered my battery was flat. So here is my car next to a big pile of poo, waiting for the AA. Apparently the other 3 had a lovely drive round the Jobbo triangle without me.
AA man diagnosed a failed alternator (odd, I'd had the battery replaced this week and the serpentine belt which drives it - bit of a coincidence). The first AA man suggested a pub where we could wait, so we cancelled HarryM's local and went there. They didn't serve food but they did have a lovely pint of Doom Bar and an ideal height fence for illustrating the height differences:
Then after a ride in Flewy's AE86 (excellent, makes Escorts look crude) we had lunch at another pub, then Jon drove me back to my car in the mental i10. If I hadn't been adding ballast I suspect Flewy wouldn't have caught up. And how my day ended:

Shame about your alternator SJJ - must be the season for it (replaced Mrs mik's Disco3 one a couple of weeks back - partly by torchlight as the car had to be useable the next day).

@ the driving gloves! I had an i10 as a courtesy car a while ago, loved it. My expectations were sub-zero but it was a joy to hustle cross country.
Shame I couldn't make it

It was a lovely day for it, shame about the Boxster as we were really just getting started. Not really built up the confidence to make the Lotus go anywhere near its capabilities in the corners but I still had some memorable drives, every time I drive it I dip my toe a little further, but a car limits day will help make bigger steps I reckon. The i10 consistently surprised me when I felt sure I'd been going relatively fast, and there it was in my mirrors! Good hustling. Also on the way home sat in traffic outside one of the museums I noticed one of the tourists taking a picture of my car wih his DSLR. Nice touch.

Really great day, with a slight change of plan after Jobbo's non starting incident. I'd already spotted Dunc's Exige on my way there on the M4 so we arrived in unison. The Sparco gloves had to make an appearance as they were the same color as the car - whether anyone I overtook noticed them I'm not sure. We were lucky with lightly trafficed roads and somehow I didn't get stuck behind anyone, being able to follow the same overtakes as Dunc most times. That meant I kept the bright orange Exige in my sights, Flewy's stiffly sprung AE86 ahead and Jobbo's Boxster right at the front. The Exige is a lovely thing and a car limits day sounds a great idea. I was surprised how well the Hyundai went. Not the best in tighter turns where a lack of grip was obvious but on bumpy and well sighted b roads it flowed really well where the others were bucking around, and the stupidly long but quick shifting gearing (3rd good for over 85) and decent steering meant I could make the most of 2nd and 3rd. Glad Jobbo enjoyed it and Flewy got a surprise Hit a partridge on the way back but the little Korean is made of strong stuff and no harm done (sadly same can't be said for the bird). Handy as I said I'd get the car back to my wife as she left it.

Flewy the animal lover will be most disappointed at the partridge incident Jon. I managed to avoid one on the B4494 just ahead of him; I think he was pleased

It was being fixed at the time you posted that - all replaced now. The alternator was putting out 11ish volts so it kept the battery alive a bit, and got me the 15 miles to the garage this morning (just).
