Marv said... Well done to RickP too- according to Richard Meaden's twitter account, he's gone over 250mph After 2 years of breaking unbreakable parts on his 1000cc streamliner evo buddy Rick Pearson has completed his first 5-mile run: 253.666mph!
Nice one - I'm waiting for the 'Jonneville' movie

Really sorry to hear that Rich, I honestly thought with all the prep you have mentioned that you would do it this year . On the flip-side (although of little consolation to you), great news regarding Dickie

Likewise. Unlucky Rick, and - I guess - there is always next year.

Yup, it's true... Mr Meaden was proudly sporting a 200mph club hat this morning at Bonneville having come back at 228mph to confirm a new record!!!
Great work Dickie and Skoda... chuffed to bits for them. As for us... yup, some gearbox work to do but hey... we'll get there! Full story of our week on www.efgmotorracing.com Including a "1 mile moment" at 260mph and a "dab of oppo" at 270mph... all a tad scary! Cheers for all the support on here. Rick

Firstly, sorry for the lack of postings during SpeedWeek. Wendover - the nearest town to the salt - had THE worst internet connection I've ever experienced, so I was existing on 3G roaming on my phone, which was far from ideal and tear-jerkingly expensive.
Secondly, thanks for all the support. It really has been an incredible experience. Bonneville is somewhere I'd always wanted to go, so to be able to see SpeedWeek from a driver's perspective has been unforgettable. To end the week with a class record (227.080mph) and membership of the 200 Club far exceeds anything I thought we could achieve. Rest assured I'll be writing a full-length feature for the next issue of evo, and Sam Riley will be producing an awesome video documentary once we get back to the UK.
Thirdly, congrats to Rick P for finally making some full runs of the long course. He had another nightmarish time, but finally got some luck to make a couple of passes at frankly ridiculous speeds. I sat in his streamliner - or rather lay down rather uncomfortably in its coffin-shaped cockpit - and can't imagine what it must be like to control it at 270mph with 0.2 turns of available lock and a pair of solid aluminium front wheels That said the view through the 'screen is awesome, and I've now got some sense of what a rush it must be to do seriously big speeds on the salt. I know Rick will be back next year, and I truly believe he'll get membership of the truly exclusive 300 Club as his reward. I might just have to be there to see it happen...

Congratulations Dickie - truly a great achievement. Next year, Rick, next year... Just flew home today. The trip was pretty brutal, driving the roadster 5,500 miles across America and back. Quite a few tickets - even tagged at 100+ by a sneaky cop aircraft in Wyoming and they set up a road block - that one took some quick thinking to avoid the cars being impounded and several of us thrown in jail. Once at Bonneville we stripped and prepared the car for racing, swapping engines four times and transmissions twice in near 100 degree heat. Best run was 127, which is damn good going in a steel-bodied flathead-powered '32. Here's a couple of photos, more to follow...

Regards Jon'.
