I can't find my post from a couple of months ago about building the Unimog; I'm sure it took less than 9 hours but it was still most of a day. And I got aching knees and hips from sitting on the floor to do it.

The table in that Telegraph video was way too small! Always been one for using the floor; that way no pieces can fall off.

I'm a bit tragic in that I use old takeaway boxes to organise the parts before I start And I take over the dining table...

As much as I can appreciate these kits and think some are really quite cool, do grown men really buy, build and display them at home?

I doubt grown men do no, and I tend to take them to work where they fit right in with all the other kits! I think the VW Camper might look pretty good at home mind. Especially while I'm dossing in this little rental for a few months and unlikely to get visitors..

Careful Baz, it could be the male equivalent of girls having stuffed toys in the bedroom? I still have to wait until Christmas to see if this huge box is the Unimog

The Evo forum really is a shadow of its former self. I remember when the internet was for the elite and now they seem to let any spastic on.

It is a little bit tragic aye, but I'm living alone with the cats, in a bungalow, so clearly I'm not about to be fighting the women off any time soon!

Not with that attitude Baz! Get stuck into 'em while you're single, live the dream. Another way of looking at it is: you've got your own pad, an income, and your own means of transport (admittedly not as good as your previous means). You tick the main prerequisite boxes! Besides, women love cats (apart from the ones that hate them).

I have Lego from various years gone by which I still display at home, admittedly not in a glass cabinet or such like, just enough to brake up the mundane empty spaces. Also keeps any visiting friends with kids happy.

I'm not abstaining don't worry, but I won't feel settled until I find myself another place of my own, this is just a temporary situation to get me through winter and help sell the house. As it happens the house completed yesterday and the money is in the bank so I'm trying very hard not to go out and buy a GTR, never mind Lego treats!
Women tended to look at me with those "awww, bless" eyes with the old car actually, as if I was a bit of a manchild that needed to grow up, so this one is about as inconspicious as it gets and goes the other way I think.

Mine tends to be built, forgotten about, then dismantled and bunged back in the box.

If I didn't have the desk space at work, and work with Lego of course, I doubt I'd have even given it another look. The discount tipped me over the edge eventually too, as its a decent saving.

Most of the large or specialised sets are hard to get hold of too, if you see one its worth buying it as you can invariably sell it on to the fanboys for more later. I think I'll stick to my desktop sized kits however

G-T-R! G-T-R! G-T-R! I'll be getting me 'winnings' back from the flat before long. Unfortunately not GTR money, but I'll still be sinking every penny of it into something that I can crash. It's the future.
