STICKY(ISH): FILM REVIEWS

Some old, some new.

Shrink

I really, really enjoyed this - kind of a mix of the floaty folky parts of Good Will Hunting and the cinematography of Lost In Translation. 9 out of 10.

The Proposal

Watched only due to extreme peer pressure. Really bad. 2 out of 10.

Casino / Goodfellas

I never really realised that they were the same film before ;) OK Goodfellas is better.
6.9 and 7.9 out of 10 respectively. I've also decided that I know find Pesci and de Niro really irritating, especially de Niro for some reason.

Donnie Brasco

Better than I remember it, actually. 8 out of 10.

Adventureland

Enjoyable in the same way that Juno was. A teen film that doesn't involve shoving your cock into pastry products. 8.1 out of 10.

I Love You Man

Instantly forgettable and Rudd needs to grow a pair. 4 out of 10.

Push

Sh1te. 1 out of 10.

More updates as my unemployment continues :D

There's a chance Goodfellas may not be as good as people think - including me. It's lazy film-making and the actors don't act. Donnie Brasco, on the other hand, has Johnny Depp in it and he's one of the very few actors who is capable of acting. I can't think of many others.

Was that because of Nicholas Cage's acting ability?

"Drink, drugs and driving a black Porsche Carrera what a big brave man he is, also a father and husband, HOW SO VERY SCARY!!!!!!!"

Oh God not you as well Ross.

Look - Cage plays the same part to the same ability in every film, and Knowing was no exception. It's like complaining your bag of peanuts contains nuts.

District 9 - bit corny in places, but ok.

My best friend's girl - rubbish

The boat that rocked - good for a few laughs

Oh I forgot about District 9.

8.9 out of 10, I thought it was very good indeed.

It really is.

Donnie Brasco (aka. "Point break" and latterly "fast and the furious") is good, but is no way as tight as Goodfellas. Depp is superb in all films, but Ray the Otter IS Henry Hill + the scene where he leads the girl into the show through the kitchens is one of my favourite scenes in any film.

Ray Liotta was utterly excellent - it's just a shame he had to share the film with the Default-W0P-U-Like crew.

Haha, in mitigation I haven't seen Knowing on the basis that Cage is in it. This also applies to any new film with his face splashed across it like a pensive retard.

"Pensive Retard" - perfection 8)

The only thing I would say about that approach is don't forget that Russell Crowe was in A Beautiful Mind. Took a lot of persuading for me to watch it just because of that, and it's now one of my all-time favourites of all time.

Nope, it's no good. I've thought about it a lot and I still don't know what that means.

Similar plot - though Point break and FatF have exactly the same plot.

Harry Potter & the Goblet of fire Pheonix - i.e. the new one

Meh as Potter films go. 2 things I gleaned from it. How fat is Potters step dad getting in real life? Can't be long for this world at that size surely. And the second. Is it wrong of me, at 33 years of age, to want to rag the back end off Hermione?

5 goblets out of 10 (or 7 if you're a Potter fan)

The Last King of Scotland

Never read anything about this film before watching it so had no clue what it was about. Thoroughly pleased that I didn't as it's a great little film & Forest certainly deserved his Oscar.

8.5 legs sewed on where your arms should be out of 10.

I would say "Probably not!". :)

Something witty goes here.....

Jorg Gray Ltd Edition Watch Number : 313631

Babylon AD: Ok, ok, I should have known better than to have voluntarily watched a Vin Diesel flick, but this started reasonably as a low-budget sci-fi B movie, but then abruptly ended in the most staggering "we ran out of film, so couldn't shoot any sort of coherent ending" ever. 1 plasma screen equipped APC out of 10.

Taken: Great Luc Besson scripted action flick with Liam Neeson on superb, deadly form.
I will force my daughters to watch this before they scoot off round the world by themselves for the first time.
8 "leave the light switches on" out of 10.

Tropic Thunder: Didn't have particularly high expectations, but actually found it consistently amusing. Robert Downey Jr was funny, but Tom Cruise was revelatory!
7 "licking the inside of a severed heads" out of 10.

JL - You like Juno? You have just gone through the floor in my estimation.

That wasn't a crash, that was a total, catastrophic failure of his talent.

I watched (500) Days of Summer on a (male) friend's recommendation recently. I strongly encourage you all in avoiding it as the plot is essentially wet bloke pines after quirky girl, wet bloke dates and falls for quirky girl, quirky girl dumps wet bloke, wet bloke pines for quirky girl.

"Evana is witty and seemingly unfazed by anything"

"Ninja poster. Emerges from shadows deals killer blow/ comedy gold and disapearred from whence she came."

Tastefully kinky
