Anyone have one, or tried one?

Some decent offers about on these for the freshly facelifted one. Our R is fun for the odd occasion it gets out of town but spends far more time doing sub-10-mile journeys at low-20s mpg.

Neighbour is awaiting delivery of his. Does that help? :)

Scrapping Diesel? I know there's been / is a backlash against it, but that's a Huge thing for VW.

Also, I was expecting a full EV from the name.

 sorry to snigger Giles, but that's the nicest cvnty phrase I've read for ages. Will recycle.

Never driven one but seen a few around Glesga. The DLR lights are unique....

I should hope so. Most cars have DRLs ;)

I'd like to know how much you're loosing by chopping in your Golf R lease early...

Are they VW offers or someone else?

 the entire lease was considerably less. Goes back in January, I'm just planning ahead.

Zonda - not sure, could be. Although my current one is Arval and they've been fine.

Quiet comfy and easy to use. The engine/electric joining and doing there stuff is hardly noticeable once the engine is warmed. Boot is tiny (too small for me with 2 kids) and felt very heavy and cumberson if you dare push on. Spritely away from lights unto about 60, then it started to noticeably run out of puff. Quality place to spend time....but also look at the A3 version. Real world says 35-50 MPG depending on what you are doing if not on electric

Passat version solves boot issue but is quite slow and certainly not up to the expectations 200bhp numbers suggest.

Nice review. Love the Depeche Mode reference, and he is correct about that.

Because V8

I had to find the Depeche Mode video to see what he meant :D

Thanks Mark - boot is about the only worry but it looks very similar to a regular Golf hatch with the boot floor in the up position, and that fits our pushchair fine. Should be back down to a single lightweight Maclaren soon anyway. Much like the wagon, I'll probably leave roofbars on permanently for carrying bikes, so may pick up a roofbox for any bigger trips.

Try the A3 etron, it looked bigger. Also Passat is worth a look.
Boot is quite a bit smaller.

The petrol side of it is a 1.4, surely that could achieve 35mpg alone?

After you press that you can just leave in silence.

If you want a good impression ask SD to make a 1 hour long review video

I like his reviews. A breath of fresh air compared to a lot of YT nobbers.

I see the GTE doesn't get such good reviews for a wannabee GTi. My dad gets high 40's out of his Octavia 1.4T 150, so what is the point of the Golf with much less space, more cost and no more economy?

Company car tax breaks?

Probably that. OK, so he says he saw high 50's in the video, but even so you lose some of the boot space and it's 1600 odd kg.

Shame they don't do an estate version as he says.
